Spatial and Temporal organization of Golgi Apparatus and Mechanisms of Sorting of Proteins in the Secretory Pathway

The Golgi ApparatusGolgi apparatus is the hub of the secretory pathway and maintains its organization amidst the constant flux of secretory cargo. In steady state, Golgi resident-enzymes are enriched in the Golgi complex, and the different cargo proteins and lipids are processed and sent out to different destinations.  The exact mechanisms of cargo recognition, sorting and progression through the Golgi apparatus, and the principles of Golgi biogenesis and maintenance are still under debate and intense scrutiny.  We are using different quantitative fluorescence and electron microscopy techniques to address these issues and delineate the principles of spatial and temporal organization of the early secretory pathway.
